The Problem

Mid Valley Maid currently lacks an online presence, including a website, which limits its ability to reach and engage with potential customers in the digital space. This absence not only hinders the company's visibility and growth potential but also puts it at a disadvantage compared to competitors who have embraced online marketing and booking options. Without an online platform, Mid Valley Maid is missing out on opportunities to showcase its services, build credibility, and capture a larger share of the market.

The Solution

Designing a responsive website for Mid Valley Maid, providing an online platform to showcase its services, engage with customers, and drive bookings. The website will feature a user-friendly interface that highlights Mid Valley Maid's brand, values, and services. It will include key information such as service offerings, pricing, testimonials, and a booking request form. By implementing this solution, Mid Valley Maid will establish a strong online presence, enhance its visibility and credibility, and ultimately drive business growth and customer engagement.

Research

The research conducted for this project deepened my understanding of cleaning service needs, user preferences, and the competitive landscape. It helped identify opportunities for Mid Valley Maid to meet these needs effectively and differentiate itself from competitors.

Research Goals

  • Understand the cleaning service needs and preferences of potential customers.
  • Identify pain points and challenges users face when hiring a cleaning service.
  • Determine the factors that influence users' decisions when choosing a cleaning service.
  • Gather feedback on website features and content that would be most valuable to users.

Research Methodologies

  • Competitive Analysis
  • User Interviews
  • User Surveys

Competitive Analysis

I researched Mid Valley Maid's competitors, both local and national. Locally, many competitors have limited online visibility and rely on third-party sites like Facebook or Instagram to connect with customers. This challenge highlights a significant opportunity for Mid Valley Maid to differentiate itself from local competitors and grow its business.

Define
During this phase of the process, my main objective was to synthesize the findings of my research by creating affinity maps, How Might We statements, and user personas to focus on during the rest of the design process.

Affinity Map

Using Miro, I wrote down all the information gathered in the interviews and surveys on digital sticky notes and grouped similar opinions, thoughts, and statements.

How Might We...

01
How might we clearly communicate pricing information and service offerings on the website to help users understand the cost and value of the cleaning services.
02
How might we improve the website's navigation and content organization to make it easier for users to find valuable information and engage with the website?
03
How might we build trust and credibility with users by showcasing customer testimonials and reviews prominently on the website?

Ideate
I began developing solutions to position Mid Valley Maid as a top competitor in their local market. I explored the concept of enabling potential clients to easily request bookings or contact the business directly, aiming to streamline these processes. Given the client's preference for a basic yet appealing website, I focused on essential features that serve both users' needs and the business' goals.

Feature Roadmap

With all the valuable information I gained from the research, I compiled a list of different features that Mid Valley Maid should include on their website to compete in their local market.

Low-Fidelity Wireframes

After sketching out frames to gather ideas on the overall layout, I developed low-fidelity wireframes on the computer to demonstrate the design of the business website and tested the design through a quick round of user testing.

Color Selection

Prior to this project, the owner did not have a set of branding guidelines. I only had her logo to work with and her request for a "boho" style, so I did my research to gain a clear understanding of the brand's identity.

The owner preferred colors that included neutrals like tan and black, with a splash of turquoise. I presented her with several color palettes, giving her the opportunity to make the final selection and actively participate in the decision-making process.

High Fidelity Wireframes

Once the style was established, I designed the high-fidelity wireframes outlining how users will navigate the features and content, as well as capturing the intricate details and visual aesthetics of the final website.

Test
It was time to bring the design to life and create prototypes for the three task flows:
01 - Finding Services & Service Details
02 - Find & Review Testimonials
03 - Request a Booking
To determine the success of the design I recruited 6 participants and conducted usability test either in-person or through Maze.
Task 01- 03: No errors and all participants completed the task in under 10 seconds.

Priority Revisions

Based on the feedback from the owner of Mid Valley Maid and the user test participants, I made a few revisions to the website's design.
01
Testimonials: Took out the client picture for added privacy of the clients and filled in the stars for the client ratings.
02
Buttons: Increased text size and weight for better legibility.
03
Section Titles: Increased weight and size to improve legibility but kept titles smaller upon request of the client.
04
Navigation Bar: Increased text size for improved legibility.
05
Body Text: Increase size and decreased text spacing to improve legibility.
06
Hero section: Changed background of hero section based on client feedback and preference.

Next Steps

After completing the design for Mid Valley Maid, the next steps would involve the development and launch of the website. This includes coding the design into a functional website, ensuring responsiveness across various devices, and testing the website for usability and performance. Once the website is ready, it can be launched and made live for users to access. Post-launch activities may include monitoring website analytics, gathering user feedback, and making any necessary updates or improvements to enhance the user experience and achieve business goals. Ongoing maintenance and updates to the website may also be necessary to keep it current and effective.

Final Thoughts

Working with Mid Valley Maid has been a valuable experience that has contributed to my growth as a UX/UI designer. Collaborating with a client allowed me to apply my skills in a real-world setting, translating client needs into effective design solutions. Through research, I gained insights into the cleaning service industry and user behavior, informing a website that meets both user needs and business goals. This project challenged me to think creatively and strategically, and I'm proud to have created a website that reflects Mid Valley Maid's brand identity and provides a seamless user experience. Overall, this project has honed my skills in research, problem-solving, and client communication, and has given me the confidence to tackle future projects with a comprehensive understanding of the design process.
